
ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Team Nigeria on Monday exited the 2025 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) African Club Championships in Tunis.
The Canaan Queens of Calabar, representing the country lost 0-3 to PETROJET Women’s team of Egypt in the semi-finals of the event at the El-Menzah Sports Hall on Monday.
The team, who are Nigeria’s sole representatives, led by Fatimo Bello, Janet Effiong, Cecilia Otu-Akpan and Hope Udoaka, picked wins against clubsides from Tunisia and Madagascar in the group phase.
However, in their last group match, the Nigerian ladies fell 0-3 to defending champions Zamalek of Egypt, finishing second in the group before advancing to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, eight women clubsides from Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia and Madagascar are competing with two Egyptian teams —- Al Zamalek and PETROJET —- to face off in the final later Monday evening.
In the men’s category, nine teams from Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Madagascar, Congo DR and Cote d’Ivoire are vying for honours, with Egypt’s ENPPI as the defending champions.
Meanwhile, the ITTF African Cup is scheduled to begin Tuesday, also in Tunis. (NAN
